KU’s Lokedi and Al Hizam defend Big 12 titles

Two days after securing her third 10,000-meter conference title in a row, Kansas senior Sharon Lokedi had another repeat gold-medal performance left in her legs.

Lokedi secured an individual crown in the 5,000 (16:15.12), as well, on Sunday at the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championship, making her both the 10K and 5K winner at the postseason meet for the second straight year.

The third day of the conference championships featured a standout performance on the KU men’s side, too. Junior Hussain Al Hizam not only successfully defended his Big 12 title in pole vault with a mark of 5.63 meters (18 feet, 5.5 inches), but broke his own league record in the process.

Both the KU women’s and men’s teams finished tied for third in team scores. The KU women (109) tied with Baylor, and Kansas State (135) won the Big 12 title. The KU men (101) tied with K-State, while Texas Tech (165) won the team title.
