Former Kansas defensive end Dorance Armstrong Jr. didn’t waste any time making his partnership with the team that drafted him official.

Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News reported Friday that Armstrong, a fourth-round pick of Dallas less than two weeks ago, signed a four-year contract with the Cowboys.

Armstrong is currently attending the team’s rookie minicamp, in Frisco, Texas.

The Dallas roster lists the 20-year-old rookie as a 6-foot-4, 257-pound defensive end. Armstrong will wear No. 74 on his jersey.

Repetiitons for young O-linemen

With seven of the KU football team’s 15 offensive linemen on campus this spring unable to fully participate due to various injuries, the offense had to get by with a short rotation of relatively inexperienced players up front.

Still, those linemen thrown into larger responsibilities — at least for a few weeks — handled it well, according to redshirt junior QB Carter Stanley, who like senior Peyton Bender and sophomore Miles Kendrick, took many snaps from redshirt freshmen centers Joey Gilbertson and Jack Williams this spring, instead of first-stringer Andru Tovi, a junior.

Up front, Stanley said communication is as important as anything in the spring. The QB reported all the available O-linemen proved capable in that category. If a breakdown did pop up, Stanley related, it tended to involve a younger player who just needed to work on technique.

“The veterans, they’ve held it down,” Stanley added. “But as a group, they continue to get better and I’m proud of them for working.”

Another Firebird offered

A few weeks after his Free State High teammate Turner Corcoran picked up an offer from KU football, so, too, did Keenan Garber.

A rising senior at FSHS, Garber is rated a three-star cornerback in the Class of 2019 by Rivals. He also has an offer from Kansas State.

The current KU roster includes four Free State graduates: Bryce Torneden, Joe Dineen, Jay Dineen and Keith Loneker Jr. Additionally, Class of 2018 offensive lineman Spencer Roe is expected to join the program this summer, ahead of his freshman year at KU.

Jordan no longer at KU

Travis Jordan, a receiver from New Orleans’ Landry-Walker High, the same school that produced KU defensive backs Mike Lee and Corione Harris, has left the program.

A three-star prospect from the 2017 recruiting class, Jordan did not record any statistics for KU this past season.
