Lawrence High’s girls track and field team placed second at the season-opening Topeka West Invitational on Thursday.

Michaela Cordova and Amaya Harris finished 1-2 in the javelin, Josie Hickerson won in the pole vault and Ella Stewart tied for first in the discus (108 feet, 2 inches). On the track, Asjah Harris won in the 200 and Evann Seratte was first in the 400, and the Lions won in the 4×100 and 4×400 relay.

Lawrence’s boys track team placed fourth. Van Dave Jacob won in the long jump and Hunter Krom was runner-up in the javelin.
