A city employee was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital Wednesday morning for injuries suffered in an accident involving a sanitation truck.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire and Medical confirmed that it responded around 10:35 a.m. Wednesday to a call regarding an accident in an alley along the 900 block of Tennessee Street.

Assistant City Manager Casey Toomay confirmed Friday that a Solid Waste Department vehicle was involved in the incident and that a city employee was injured, but she would not provide any further details, saying the city was still gathering information about what had happened.

She said the city’s top concerns were for the well-being and privacy of the employee.
