Haskell Indian Nations University tabbed Nanabah Allison-Brewer as the new athletic director Friday.

Allison-Brewer (Navajo) just finished her seventh year as a mathematics instructor and head volleyball coach for Haskell. Allison-Brewer taught Pre- and Introductory Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, Trigonometry, and Applied Calculus.

“I am honored to have been selected as the next athletic director for Haskell Indian Nations University,” Allison-Brewer said in a release. “The rich history and traditions brought me to this school, because I share the same passion of sports as a positive influence in Indian education. My involvement in athletics guided me to where my career is today and I want to make that same impact for the student-athletes at Haskell.”

Prior to coming to Lawrence, Allison-Brewer was the first Native American woman to be a head volleyball coach of an NCAA Division I program at South Dakota State University. During her three-year tenure, she led the Jackrabbits to 36 total victories and two appearances in the Summit League Tournament.

In addition, Allison-Brewer played for University of New Mexico between 1995-99. Allison-Brewer finished her volleyball career eighth in service aces and digs, and was picked as the defensive specialist of the year in 1998 for the Western Athletic Conference.
