Free State newcomers highlight all-state softball selections

A pair of Free State softball players and a Lawrence High pitcher netted all-state honors, which was announced Friday afternoon.

Freshman Tatum Clopton, who is verbally committed to Oklahoma State, was named to the Class 6A first team as a pitcher. Freshman Sara Roszak joined her teammate on the first team as an infielder.

Both Clopton and Roszak helped Free State, which finished with an 18-7 record, capture its first state championship in program history. Clopton struck out 25 batters in 21 innings over three games during the state tournament, while Roszak led the Sunflower League with a .619 batting average in the regular season.
