Ottawa High product Kord Ferguson finished third in the discus throw at the NCAA track and field outdoor championships on Friday at Oregon’s Hayward Field.

The Alabama junior’s throw of 58.42 meters (191 feet, 8 inches) won the first flight, and helped him secure first-team All-America honors. Ferguson also finished 13th in the shot put on Wednesday with a mark of 19.39 meters (63 feet, 7.5 inches).

Kansas sophomore Bryce Hoppel clocked with a personal-best time of 1:45.67 in the 800 meters, which was good for fourth place and first-team All-America honors. Jim Ryun’s time of 1:44.3 is the only time faster than Hoppel’s in Kansas history.

Three Jayhawks came away with second-team All-America honors on Day 3 of the NCAA meet between Barden Adams in the triple jump and the combo of George Evans and Nicolai Ceban in the discus throw. Adams finished 11th with a mark of 15.90 meters (52 feet, 2 inches) in the triple jump. Evans and Ceban placed 13th and 14th, respectively, in the discus with throws of 54.41 meters (178 feet, 6 inches) and 54.26 meters (178 feet).
