To the editor:

The U.S. Constitution does not give the president the power to begin a war without the consent of Congress. Presently two bills are circulating in Congress, Senate Bill S2047 and House Bill HR4837, both of which would keep President Trump from starting a war with North Korea without congressional authorization.

Although these bills have numerous supporters in Congress, one wonders at the silence of other senators and representatives, including those from Kansas, who have not weighed in on this matter. Have they considered the cost of any nuclear confrontation to the United States, to the Korean people, and to the entire world? Do they not feel responsible for being part of the conversation as the constitution dictates?

We need to know where our senators and representatives stand on this important issue.
