The Douglas County Commission is expected to approve final spending levels for this year’s capital improvement projects at its meeting Wednesday.

Sarah Plinsky, assistant county administrator, said commissioners already approved spending $1.22 million on facility-related projects and $5.82 million on road and bridge projects. However, those costs were based on estimates made before the projects began. Commissioners will now be asked to adjust those figures to reflect the actual costs of individual projects now that those costs are known, she said.

Information Plinsky provided commissioners indicates that the final figures for facilities projects include the last $434,000 spent on the $8 million renovations to the Douglas County Fairgrounds, as well as the $120,433 spent this year on designs for a proposed $44 million Douglas County Jail expansion. In May, county voters defeated Proposition 1, which would have funded the jail expansion.

Data that Douglas County Public Works director Keith Browning provided commissioners shows that the final road and bridge spending allocations include $2.7 million for the roadway safety upgrades to County Route 458 between East 800 and East 1000 roads, which are now underway.

The Douglas County Commission meets at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Douglas County Courthouse, 1100 Massachusetts St. To view the complete agenda, visit douglascountyks.org.
