In this file photo from July 12, 2012, bicyclists take off during the second annual Lawrence Community Bike Ride at the Rotary Arboretum.

With new rides planned this year, an eighth annual family bike ride this weekend will also offer free helmets and safety vests, while supplies last.

The Summer 2018 Lawrence Community Bike Ride will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 21, at the Rotary Arboretum, 5100 W. 27th St.

Planned routes include 1-, 4-, 6-, 8- and 12-mile rides. There will also be a kids helmet fitting, bike checkup and maintenance area, a healthy snack zone provided by The Merc, an inflatable zone for kids and, for the bold, a training wheel takeoff area.

For those who can’t make it, a fall ride is planned for Saturday, Sept. 15, at Burroughs Creek Trail. Visit ridelawrence.com for more information about both rides.
