Firebirds dropped against SM East, 71-56

Free State’s boys basketball team lost its second straight game Saturday, falling 71-56 to Shawnee Mission East in the third-place game of the McPherson Invitational Tournament at the Roundhouse.

The Firebirds, who were without starting forward Jalan Robinson, only shot 35 percent (21 of 60) from the floor. Senior guard Garrett Luinstra, who was named to the all-tournament team, had 19 points and senior Simon McCaffrey scored 12.

Free State (6-3) will play host to Mill Valley at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
