Ajekwu leads LHS girls past Blue Springs South

Junior center Chisom Ajekwu scored 19 points and Lawrence High’s girls basketball team picked up a 51-39 victory over Blue Springs (Mo.) South in the fifth-place game of the Truman Tournament on Saturday.

The 6-foot-3 Ajekwu had 12 points in the second half. Senior wing E’lease Stafford added 12 points and Talima Harjo scored seven as the Lions improved their record to 8-3.

“I’m really proud of the girls for battling back on day three of a long tournament,” LHS coach Jeff Dickson said. “Chisom really competed and battled and led the way with her toughness. E’lease was solid as usual and Tyrin Cosey really gave us a lift with her defense and quickness.”

The Lions will play host to Harmon at 7 p.m. Thursday.
