Firebirds fall to Bishop Carroll in McPherson tourney semis

Trailing by four points at halftime, Free State’s boys basketball team couldn’t make up enough ground in a 59-53 loss to Bishop Carroll in the semifinals of the McPherson Invitational Tournament at the Roundhouse.

Free State senior guard Garrett Luinstra led the Firebirds (6-2, ranked No. 1 in Class 6A) with 16 points and eight rebounds, drilling four 3-pointers. Senior Reece White-Downing added eight points and six rebounds off the bench. Carsen Pracht scored 20 points to lead the Golden Eagles (7-4) to the tournament championship game.

The Firebirds will play in the third-place game at 5 p.m. today.
