Kansas University basketball recruiting

Less than 24 hours after Kansas earned a comeback road win against West Virginia, some future Jayhawks received more good news. All three Class of 2018 prep players who signed with KU in the early signing period were selected to play in the McDonald’s All-American Game on Tuesday afternoon.

Guards Devon Dotson and Quentin Grimes will suit up for the West team during the showcase on March 28 at Philips Arena in Atlanta. Forward David McCormack will play for the East team.

Prior to Tuesday’s announcement, 41 KU players participated in the McDonald’s game. Billy Preston scored 10 points last spring. Josh Jackson was a co-MVP in 2016 and Cheick Diallo was MVP in 2015.

Dotson, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound point guard from Charlotte, N.C., is averaging 27 points, eight rebounds and five assists in his senior season.

“It was screams, claps and my mom shed a tear,” Dotson told the Charlotte Observer of his reaction. “So it was a great moment. I would put this up at the top (of accomplishments) from a high school basketball standpoint. Yeah, I can’t even put this into words. It’s just an amazing feeling.”

KU and Duke both had three players picked for the all-star game this year from the 24-player roster, tied for the most in the nation. The only other time KU had three recruits play in the game was 2005: Mario Chalmers, Julian Wright and Micah Downs.

The Jayhawks boast the third-ranked recruiting class for the upcoming season, according to Rivals, behind only Duke and Oregon. Other Kansas targets chosen to play include guard Romeo Langford, forward Zion Williamson and point guard Jahvon Quinerly. Williamson is expected to announce his decision on Jan. 20.
