Free State senior wrestler Tate Steele placed third at the Bobcat Classic on Saturday and senior Isaiah Jacobs was fourth in their respective weight classes to lead the Firebirds to eighth place at Basehor-Linwood.

Steele posted a 5-1 record in the two-day, 33-team tournament at 138 pounds, losing 8-6 in the semifinals. Jacobs, who lost in the 132-pound semifinals, had a 4-2 record. Along with those two seniors, Caleb Streeter (fifth, 113 pounds), Elijah Jacobs (sixth, 145), Joey Eddis (sixth, 160) and Charlie Bermel (eighth, 152) earned medals.

Lawrence High didn’t have any wrestlers medal in the tournament, taking 30th in the team standings. Among area schools, Eudora’s Elijah Kennedy was fourth at 160 pounds and Tonganoxie’s Connor Searcy placed third at 195 pounds.
