Firebirds 3rd at SM South wrestling tourney

Free State’s wrestling team had three individual champions at the Shawnee Mission South Invitational on Saturday and took third place in the team standings.

Senior Tate Steele, competing for the first time this season, won all three of his matches at 138 pounds including two by pinfall. Elijah Jacobs was crowned champion at 145 pounds after winning four matches — three by fall. At 182 pounds, Devin Beers won by an ultimate tiebreaker in his championship match.

Free State’s Caleb Streeter (113 pounds), Garrett Bradley (120) and Joey Eddis (160) were runner-up in their respective weight classes.
