Eskilson, Johnson take top times in state swimming prelims

Free State senior Evan Eskilson and Lawrence High senior Stephen Johnson were first in an event during the Class 6A boys state swimming prelims on Friday at the Capitol Federal Natatorium in Topeka.

Eskilson swam to the top time in the 100 backstroke (51.96) and Johnson was the leader in the 500 freestyle (4:45.93). Eskilson was second in the 100 freestyle and Johnson was second in the 200 freestyle, while Free State freshman Reilley Moore was third in the 100 butterfly.

The top 16 swimmers in each event will compete in the finals, which begin at 3:30 p.m. today.
