Olathe South surges past Free State baseball, 9-8

Down two runs with two runners on base in the bottom of the seventh inning Wednesday, Olathe South’s Ryan Koval hit a walk-off, three-run homer to hand Free State’s baseball team a 9-8 loss at Olathe District Activity Center.

The Firebirds (4-4) pulled ahead with a three-run fifth inning when Cam Karlin and Peyton Sparks hit back-to-back RBI singles. O-South (5-3) scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh, helped by a leadoff single and two walks to set up Koval’s heroics.

Free State will play host to Gardner Edgerton at 5:30 p.m. today.
