With three runners placing inside of the top 10, Free State High’s girls cross country team took first place at the Baldwin Invitational on Saturday.

Free State junior Julia Larkin led in fourth place, finishing in 20:56.61. Junior Emma Hertig followed in sixth and sophomore Erin Fagan placed seventh. Sophomore Emily Stone added a 14th-place finish.

Baldwin High’s girls cross country team finished runner-up to Free State by five points. Junior Natalie Beiter was third in 20:53.06, while freshman Ambrynn Stewart took eighth. Lawrence High’s girls team took eighth, highlighted by junior Evann Seratte in 19th place and sophomore Sophie DeWitt in 20th.

In the boys’ race, Free State took third as a team. Senior Avant Edwards finished fourth in 17:22.86 and sophomore Charlie Johnson followed in eighth. Senior Jared Hicks (15th) and sophomore Caelen Cordes (16th) added medals.

Baldwin was fourth, led by senior Parker Wilson in seventh place and junior Jacob Bailey in 10th, while Lawrence’s boys team was led by senior Carson Jumping Eagle, who took 13th in 18:08.58. As a team, the Lions took sixth.
