Hickerson wins all-around; LHS wins team title in gymnastics season opener

Lawrence High junior Josie Hickerson won the all-around and led the LHS gymnastics team to first place at the Shawnee Mission West Invitational on Wednesday.

Hickerson scored a 9.0 on the vault, a 9.05 on the floor exercise and an 8.4 on the balance beam, all top marks among all competitors. Junior Eden Kingery was third all-around, registering an 8.25 on the vault, 8.1 on the beam and 8.1 on the floor.

Free State freshman Talia Gay led the Firebirds to second place in the team standings, scoring a 9.05 on the uneven bars, an 8.6 on the vault and 8.6 on the floor exercise.
