Area football roundup: Perry-Lecompton crushes Riverside

Perry-Lecompton quarterback Dalton Kellum ran for 202 yards and four touchdowns, lifting the Kaws to a 56-14 football victory over Riverside in their season opener at Riverside.

Kellum completed 6-of-10 passes for 79 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Tyler Erickson added 119 yards and a score on the ground.

The Kaws (1-0) will play host to Hiawatha next week.

Veritas Christian’s football team suffered a 66-28 loss to WAHAA in its season opener Friday at Bennett Field.

Aaron Evans led the Eagles (0-1) with 75 rushing yards and a touchdown on 18 carries while Quinton Donohoe had 139 yards passing and Trey Huslig had 94 yards receiving with two scores. Donohoe added a rushing touchdown.

Veritas recorded 381 yards of total offense but was hurt by two interceptions and and two lost fumbles.

Tonganoxie 23, Spring Hill 14

Drake Pray scored on a 16-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Mason Beach with five minutes remaining Friday, sealing Tonganoxie’s 23-14 football road victory over Spring Hill.

On the ensuring Spring Hill drive, Tonganoxie’s Zac Morgan secured an interception.

Beach finished with 231 passing yards and two touchdowns and two interceptions.
