KU volleyball falls to Iowa State
The Kansas volleyball team had its six-match winning streak snapped Saturday in a four-set loss to No. 22-ranked Iowa State (25-18, 25-19, 19-25, 25-23) at Hilton Coliseum.
The No. 11-ranked Jayhawks dropped the first two sets, watching the Cyclones (16-4, 7-3 Big 12) produce a .356 hit percentage in the first set.
Jada Burse led KU with 12 kills while Kelsie Payne added 11 kills and 15 digs. Senior setter Ainise Havili had 42 assists and a team-high 18 digs.
“It was just a really slow start. When you play a high-level team on the road you can’t dig an 0-2 deficit and expect to win,” Kansas (19-4, 8-2) coach Ray Bechard said. “We fought back in a lot of ways but Iowa State made the plays at the end to earn the win.”
Kansas, which is tied with Baylor for second place in the Big 12 standings, owns a 4-3 record against ranked opponents this season. KU and Baylor are two games behind Texas.
