Bishop Seabury sophomore Sami Dennon placed 12th at the Class 2A state cross country meet Saturday at Wamego Country Club, leading Seabury’s girls team to 10th in the team standings.

Dennon finished in 21:00.0, while freshman Morgan Orozco followed in 33rd in 22:44.6. Sabrina Eicher (71st place), Cavan McCabe (74th), Addie Bay (75th) and Audrey Nguyen-Hoang (88th) rounded out the Seahawks runners.

In the 2A boys race, Seabury sophomore Henry Nelson took fourth place, his second straight season placing inside of the top 10.

Nelson, Seabury’s only boys state qualifier, finished in 17:08.7.

Baldwin girls win state title

Baldwin High’s girls cross country team won a Class 4A state championship Saturday at Wamego Country Club with three runners earning medals.

Freshman Ambrynn Stewart was fourth in 19:45.2, while junior Natalie Beiter followed in eighth and freshman Lauren Russell was 16th.

Baldwin’s boys cross country team placed seventh at state, while Tonganoxie was ninth. Baldwin senior Parker Wilson took sixth in 16:52.2.
