FSHS boys soccer falls in double overtime

In a double overtime thriller, Free State High’s boys soccer team lost, 3-2, in the first round of regionals to Derby on Tuesday at Derby.

Free State senior Nick Howard sent the game into overtime with a game-tying score with 13 minutes remaining in regulation. Senior Charlie Newsome scored in the first half.

Derby (10-7) senior Grant Sacket scored the game-winning goal in overtime on a penalty kick. In the first overtime, Free State had its own penalty kick, but couldn’t shoot the ball past Derby goalkeeper AJ Howard.

The Firebirds ended the season with a 7-8-2 record.
