Free State’s girls cross country team had three runners finish inside of the top 10 at their Class 6A regional on Saturday at Milford State Park, taking third place in the team standings and qualifying for the Class 6A state meet.

Julia Larkin led the Firebirds in fifth place, while Erin Fagan followed in sixth and Emily Stone took ninth. The top three teams at each regional earn spots at next week’s state meet at Rim Rock Farm.

Free State’s boys cross country team was fourth. Sophomore Charlie Johnson took sixth and qualified for state as an individual, as one of the top five runners on a team that didn’t qualify for state.

Running at Johnson County Community College, Lawrence High junior Evann Seratte punched her ticket to state with a 14th-place finish. Lawrence’s girls cross country team was seventh in the team standings.

The LHS boys cross country team placed sixth, but didn’t have any state qualifiers. Ruben Little Head led the team in 21st place.

In Class 2A, Bishop Seabury’s girls cross country team took third in the team standings to earn a spot at next week’s state meet at Wamego Country Club. Sophomore Sami Dennon was the highest placer in fifth.

Seabury sophomore Henry Nelson won the boys race in 17:05, making a return trip to state. The boys team finished seventh.
