Seabury’s Faith Hedges wins regional title

Bishop Seabury sophomore Faith Hedges took first place at the Class 3-2-1A girls golf regional Tuesday at Lake Shawnee Golf Course in Topeka, giving her an opportunity to defend her state championship.

Hedges, the school’s only golfer, carded an 85 at the regional, 14 strokes ahead of the runner-up. She made par on seven holes in her round and shot a birdie on the par-4 hole No. 10, scoring a 40 on the back nine.

It’s the first tournament Hedges competed in this season and she will return for the 3-2-1A state tournament, which begins at 9 a.m. Monday at Smoky Hill Country Club in Hays.

Hedges won state as a freshman by three strokes last year.
