The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department announced via social media Friday that local celebrations of International Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day have been canceled “due to outside circumstances.”

However, the department said biking trails will still be open Saturday.

The event is celebrated the first Saturday in October, according to the International Mountain Bicycling Association. It is officially recognized by Congress.
