Eight-year-old Etta Otter browses treasure balls with her mom, Courtney, both of Lawrence, at the annual Bizarre Bazaar on Friday, Nov. 27, 2015, at the Lawrence Arts Center.

The day after Thanksgiving, there are sure to be throngs of consumers standing in line at big-box stores jockeying for position to nab the latest electronic gizmo or other big-ticket items at doorbuster discounts.

Then there’s the Bizarre Bazaar.

At this aptly named, only-in-Lawrence event, shoppers can peruse products by local and regional artists and crafters — think patchouli car sachets, steampunk angel figurines, decorative paper mache trinket boxes, handmade jewelry or hand-dyed socks.

The roughly 30-year-old tradition is billed by organizers as “The one show you never want to miss!”

As always, the Bizarre Bazaar begins the day after Thanksgiving at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St. Admission is free.

The Bazaar will be open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25.

More than 100 area artists will have booths set up throughout the Arts Center. There will be live music by local groups playing throughout the event and food for sale, including loaded baked potatoes and the annual Bizarre Bazaar bake sale.

“Pace yourself! There’s a lot to see,” organizers said. “Bring your holiday list and get all those hard-to-buy-for people taken care of!”
