Letter to the editor: Support Haskell events

To the editor:

I am writing this letter in the support of the many athletes, young and old who competed in the “2nd Annual Billy Mills 10K Run,” held Nov. 11 at Haskell Indian Nations University.

The athletes who attended this event represented many states and Native American nations, many of whom are championship athletes in their home areas.

I wish to thank the athletes of all ages, race and gender who participated in this event and the sponsors for showing their respect and support for Mr. Billy Mills and Haskell.

I noticed very little coverage of this event in your paper, outside of a photo of Mr. Mills and caption at the store of one of the sponsors.

These athletes deserve all the support they can receive for taking their time and showing their support to compete in this event, despite the unfriendly weather conditions.

I and others wish to see more coverage of Haskell’s events and athletics. Whose fault this is, I do not know, but they deserve to be recognized as well as the athletes of the University of Kansas, Lawrence and Free State high schools, as they are a part of our community too.
