Perry-Lecompton softball advances to 3A state semis

In the state tournament for the first time since 2008, Perry-Lecompton’s softball team earned a 3-1 victory in the first round against Southeast of Saline on Thursday at Manhattan’s Twin Oaks Complex.

The fifth-seeded Kaws (22-2) will face top-seeded Riverton (24-0) at 11 a.m. today in the Class 3A semifinals. The winner will face Rossville (21-0) or Marysville (19-4) in the championship at 2 p.m.

Perry-Lecompton scored all three runs in the top of the second inning via a two-run single from Cassody O’Connor and an RBI single from Bailey Leming. Pitcher Megan Fast only allowed five hits in seven innings.
