Letter to the editor: Solidarity

To the editor:

The current political climate has many people looking for new ways to engage in democracy and interact with elected officials beyond simply voting at the ballot box. We’ve established a Lawrence chapter of Solidarity Sundays, a nationwide feminist activism group with over 100 chapters, to meet this need.

This month, the national group focused on reproductive rights, which included writing letters to the editor, postcards to our elected officials and thank-yous to abortion providers in states with limited options. We thanked the remaining two abortion providers in Kansas — in Wichita and Overland Park — and encouraged our representatives to support Planned Parenthood and their critical work in family planning and medical assistance to vulnerable populations.
