Too many big numbers dotted too many Kansas scorecards Tuesday in the second day of the NCAA men’s golf regional at The University of Texas Golf Club in Austin.

The Jayhawks fell to 11th with one round remaining, at 29-over par, 32 strokes behind the pace set by Texas and 14 shots behind fifth-place Arizona State. The top schools among the 14 competing in Austin advance to the NCAA championship.

So far, each KU player has been above par on both of his rounds on the par-71 course. The top four scores from each school each day count toward the team total.

Blow-up holes did in the Jayhawks in Tuesday’s second round.

Daniel Hudson carded a triple-bogey, Andy Spencer made double-bogey on three of his final four holes and Chase Hanna had a double-bogey on his card.

Heading into today’s final round, here is where the KU golfers stand: 26. Daniel Sutton 75-72 147; 39. Hanna 72-78 150; 56. Hudson 77-76 152, Spencer 72-81 153; 60. Charlie Hillier 79-75 154.

“Obviously, a tall order on Wednesday to qualify,” Kansas coach Jamie Bermel said. “We need to play extremely well from top to bottom.”
