The United Way of Douglas County brings community resources together to support a better life for residents by focusing on improvements in health, education and financial stability. Come join the United Way during the Day of Action on June 14 by assisting with an ice cream social with some of our community’s senior residents. Volunteers are needed to help set up supplies, serve ice cream and cupcakes, and clean up after the event. This is a great volunteer opportunity for families with young children, scout troops, 4-H clubs, school groups and individuals who enjoy socializing. A social will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Babcock Place, 1700 Massachusetts St. Sign up to volunteer at volunteerdouglascounty.org. For more information, please contact Felecia Cunningham at uwcamp@unitedwaydgco.org or at 785-843-6626 ext. 340.

Just Food and its partners fight hunger in our community by increasing the availability of a variety of foods while reducing waste from discarded food. Just Food is looking for volunteers to help with the mail carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive on Saturday. Volunteers are needed at either the downtown Lawrence post office or the Jayhawk post office on 31st Street. We will be unloading and sorting donations from our Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. When the postal carriers arrive at the post office, Just Food volunteers will unload those vehicles and sort the donations into the Just Food Trucks. We need your help to make this possible. For more information, please contact Elizabeth Stephens at estephens@justfoodks.org.
