Kansas softball falls to ISU, 1-0

Iowa State scored in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 1-0 victory over Kansas in Big 12 softball Friday at Cyclone Sports Complex in Ames, Iowa.

KU starter Alexis Reid (14-17) allowed five hits and struck out four in 6 2/3 innings.

Mikayla Warren and Lily Behrmann had the only two hits for the Jayhawks, both singles.

“Before the weekend started, my thought was we were going to be to equally matched teams battling it out, and today showed that,” KU coach Megan Smith said. “It came down to one run and unfortunately it wasn’t us. Both pitchers threw extremely well and they were able to scrape one together.”

The loss was KU’s third in a row and dropped the Jayhawks to 24-26 overall, 3-12 in the Big 12. Iowa State improved to 21-32 and 4-12.

The three-game series continues at noon today.
