Shawnee Mission West scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning — via three straight hits — and Free State’s baseball team couldn’t recover in a 5-4 loss Thursday at FSHS.

Trailing by two runs in the bottom of the seventh, Free State senior Zion Bowlin hit a two-out RBI single, scoring Daniel Bryant. But a pickoff ended the comeback attempt.

The Firebirds (12-5) will face Pembroke Hill at 5:30 p.m. today at FSHS.
