Caldwell takes 9th at swimming national championships

Former Free State standout swimmer Courtney Caldwell placed ninth in the women’s 100-meter freestyle Tuesday at the U.S. National Championships in Indianapolis.

Caldwell, who completed her sophomore season at North Carolina State, won the ‘B’ final in a personal-best 54.80 seconds.

The top two swimmers in the freestyle qualified for next month’s FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

In Tuesday morning’s prelims, Kansas incoming freshman Lauryn Parrish was 94th in the women’s 100 freestyle and Lawrence native Michael Andrew tied for 35th in the men’s 100 freestyle.
