Lawrence High football coach Dirk Wedd, entering his final season, was given the Dave Bassore Kansas Man of the Year award Thursday from the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association.

The award, given to one head coach and an assistant coach from each state, was presented during the GKCFCA All-Star game at Blue Springs (Mo.) South, honoring coaches’ contributions to the sport.

Former Lawrence players Kobe Buffalomeat and Jacob Unruh suited up for Team Kansas in a 17-7 loss to Missouri. Buffalomeat played on the offensive line and Unruh lined up on the defensive line.

Buffalomeat has signed to play at Illinois State and Unruh will play at Fort Hays State.
