Letter to the editor: Converting hate

To the editor:

“O, God, thy sea is so great and my boat is so small.”

One lesson we have learned from the exploration of space is how small and insignificant the earth is compared with the vastness of the universe. Yet the earth maintains a uniqueness at least in our own solar system of evolving biological life and a spectrum of color and geological splendor. No other planet in our system has all these features.

All the sociological and technological advances down through the ages have come from the inventiveness of the human mind. All the trials, tribulations and problems are products of our actions and solvable by human effort. No matter our race, religion, ethnicity, or country of origin, this is our home.

Yet as a planet we struggle to maintain an equilibrium in how we treat each other as a species. As a species, we are a button push away from the complete destruction of our home, our planet. If we cannot convert hate and fear into trust and hope, we are evidentially doomed. If we cannot resolve that which divides us and accept diversity as an accepted principle, we shall not survive.
