The Kansas football team’s 2018 recruiting class shrank by one commitment Monday evening, with Texas prep Tevailance Hunt announcing his decision to de-commit from David Beaty’s program.

Rated a three-star wide receiver by Rivals, the 6-foot-2, 180-pound Hunt — entering his senior year at Texas High, in Texarkana, Texas — was the prep teammate of current freshman KU receiver Quan Hampton.

Hunt committed to the Jayhawks on the day of the spring game, this past April, after attending the scrimmage at Memorial Stadium with Hampton.

“First off, I would like to say that this was a very long four months and a very hard decision to make,” Hunt wrote in a note he posted on Twitter. “I want to thank all the Kansas coaches and the head coach for believing in me and giving me an opportunity to play at the next level.”

According to Hunt’s message, he has closed his recruiting process and will announce which college team he plans to play for this Friday night.

Scout.com reported since KU became the first Power Five team to offer Hunt a scholarship in mid-April, the receiver has since added offers from TCU, Oklahoma State and Indiana, as well as some non-Power Five programs.

Gabe Brooks of Scout also reported Kansas “is still in the mix” for Hunt, though it seems highly unlikely a player would de-commit from a program only to re-commit to it four days later.

According to Scout, Hunt gained an offer from TCU after attending the team’s July 21 camp.

With Hunt out of the mix, that brings KU’s 2018 commitment list down to 12 players.

Based on Rivals’ rankings, Kansas owns the 43rd-best recruiting class in the nation after losing Hunt.
