FSHS wrestling wins SM South Invite

Free State High’s wrestling team won its first tournament of the season Saturday, taking first place at the 14-team Shawnee Mission South Invitational.

The Firebirds had four individual champions: Tate Steele (138 pounds), Elijah Jacobs (145), Ben Hill (152) and Gage Foster (170). Lou Fincher (106), Bennett King (120) and Isaiah Jacobs (126) were runner-up in their respective weight classes.

Free State, ranked No. 9 in Class 6A, will compete in the two-day Basehor-Linwood Invitational beginning Friday.
