LHS, FSHS basketball teams earn sub-state home openers

All of the Lawrence High and Free State boys and girls basketball teams will receive at least one more home game this season.

Lawrence’s girls basketball team (16-4) received the No. 1 seed in its sub-state bracket and will open against Wyandotte (3-13) at 7 p.m. Thursday at LHS. The Lions won the previous meeting, 63-20, in December.

The LHS boys basketball team (13-7) was seeded second and will play host to seventh-seeded SM Northwest (7-13) at 7 p.m. Wednesday. When the two teams played each other on Feb. 7, Lawrence won, 65-54.

Free State’s boys basketball team (14-6) earned the No. 3 seed in its bracket and will open against sixth-seeded Wichita Southeast (10-10) at 6 p.m. Wednesday at FSHS. It’s a rematch of last year’s sub-state title game.

In the girls bracket, No. 4-seed Free State (12-8) will play host to No. 5-seed Topeka (9-11) at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Sub-state boys finals are Friday and sub-state girls finals are Saturday.
