KU track 2nd at Big 12 Indoor

Kansas track and field secured a runner-up finish at the Big 12 Indoor Championship Saturday at the Lied Recreation Center in Ames, Iowa, with the Kansas men finishing 13 points behind overall champion Texas and the women posting a fifth-place finish. The teams scored 110.5 points and 81 points, respectively, over the two-day meet.

Strymar Livingston, a senior from Brooklyn, N.Y., earned the 800-meter title in 1:48.40, the second-fastest time in his Kansas career. Freshman Bryce Hoppel placed fifth with his career-best time of 1:48.82.

Senior Hannah Richardson set a school record in the 3,000 meters, with a time of 9:16.02, and came in second, close behind Baylor’s Maggie Montoya.

The Jayhawks will find out Tuesday who qualifies for the 2017 NCAA Indoor Championships, slated for March 10-11 at Gilliam Indoor Track in College Station, Texas.
