Letter to the editor: Differing views

To the editor:

So Gary Stussie doesn’t like Leonard Pitts (letter to the editor, Feb. 20). He is free to do so, and speak his mind about it. Freedom of speech and press are two of our most important rights, and Pitts has them as well.

I don’t always agree with everything I hear and read either, but I don’t want it censored or eliminated. If we try to suppress what we don’t like, nobody will be able to say anything because someone, somewhere won’t like it. Why don’t we just get rid of all newspapers, magazines, television, radio, the internet, etc.?

Personally, I applaud the Journal-World for including columns of differing perspectives, even when I don’t always agree with them. In a time when alternative facts and media bashing are so common we need to double our efforts to maintain our ability to speak and communicate freely. Many people have made the ultimate sacrifice to help us preserve those freedoms, and we must continue that fight against those who would try to stifle them.
