Letter to the editor: Judicial respect

To the editor:

The framers of the U.S. Constitution made sure the judicial branch put a check on the president’s and Congress’ possible unconstitutional tyrannical control of our country.

President Trump has crossed that line by denigrating the U.S. judicial system. Even the new nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court, Neil Gorsuch, has characterized Trump’s attacks on judges as “demoralizing” and “disheartening.”

Fellow Americans, there is a dangerous and ill wind blowing in our capital now. If Trump’s attacks on the judiciary continue, then the effect will become a deadly hurricane that will eventually harm or partially destroy our democracy.

Alarmist, you say? Well, there was another time in the 20th century when leaders ignored the judiciary and had a controlled media system, and the result is well documented.
