KU women’s basketball dropped in overtime at Iowa State

Despite leading for a majority of the second half, the KU women’s basketball team was unable to hold off Iowa State, falling 71-69 in overtime at Hilton Coliseum.

Led by Christalah Lyons (19 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds) and Kylee Kopatich (15 points, 11 rebounds), the Jayhawks overcame an early deficit and snagged their first lead of the game with less than a minute to play in the first half.

The Jayhawks (9-3, 0-1 Big 12), who led by three with less than two minutes left, committed three turnovers from that point forward while allowing Iowa State’s Bridget Carleton (game-high 30 points) to score six points down the stretch. Kopatich drilled a 3 to send the game to overtime, but the Jayhawks were unable to regain the momentum, as Iowa State (7-5, 1-0) came away with the narrow win.

KU will return to action Sunday to take on TCU in Allen Fieldhouse.
