Firebirds 4th, Lions 7th at Leavenworth wrestling tourney

Free State sophomore Lou Fincher took first place in the 106-pound weight class and five other Free State wrestlers took second at the Leavenworth Challenger on Saturday.

Fincher posted a 4-0 record in the smallest weight class, winning his last two matches by pinfall, leading the Firebirds to fourth in the team standings. Elijah Jacobs (145 pounds), Stanley Holder (152), Joey Eddis (160), Devin Beers (182) and Elijah Denmark (195) were runner-up in their respective weight classes.

Lawrence High senior Melle Dye was champion at 145 pounds, winning all five of his matches to open the season. The Lions placed seventh as a team.
