Free State High senior Tori Hoopingarner shot a round of 95 to take 13th place at the season-opening Cat Classic on Wednesday at Shawnee Country Club, leading the Firebirds to eighth in the team standings.

Sophomores Kate Lawrence and Kennedy Birk placed 34th and 37th, respectively. Lawrence carded an 111, while Birk followed with a 119. Sophomore Tyler Bane finished in 40th place (124) and sophomore Hannah Vaughn was 45th (133).

The Firebirds will compete in the Shawnee Mission Northwest Tournament on Sept. 18 at Lake Quivira, which serves as the first leg of the Sunflower League tournament.
