Letter to the editor: Rethink coverage

To the editor:

I began the morning reading the Journal-World sports page and became rather annoyed. The front of the page read “K-State primed for great football season,” by Tom Keegan. The story could have been on the front of the Manhattan paper if you did not know better. Having read the J-W for over 50 years, I was embarrassed and insulted by the story on the front page. KU football has been rather disappointing, to put it mildly, since the departure of Mark Mangino seven or eight years ago. But I don’t think it is necessary for our sports editor to rub our faces in it! Do you think you would read a similar story about KU basketball on the front of the Manhattan sports page? It would be a cold day in hell! Remember how much K-State fans hate KU. If you don’t believe me, listen to the broadcasts of KU-K-State games and you can hear quite well all the classy anti-KU chants. If it is necessary to print the story, put it on the back page. Maybe Mr. Keegan can write about the Missouri Tigers tomorrow!
