Kwik Shop employee shot; police seek public’s help in locating 2 suspects

Lawrence Police are investigating after a Kwik Shop employee was shot during an attempted armed robbery early Friday, Aug. 11, outside the store at 3440 W. Sixth St.

Lawrence police are investigating after a Kwik Shop employee was shot during an attempted armed robbery early Friday morning outside the store at 3440 W. Sixth St.

Officers were dispatched to the business shortly after 3:40 a.m.

The victim, according to a news release Friday from Lawrence police, was a 38-year-old man who was being treated for nonlife-threatening injuries at an area hospital.

Police are searching for two suspects who allegedly tried to rob the employee, shot him once and then fled the scene on foot. One suspect was described as a black man between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, wearing a red bandana over his face, a dark hooded sweatshirt and dark pants. The other suspect was described as a black man about 6 feet 2 inches tall, wearing a blue bandana on his face and a dark hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.

Police and sheriff’s deputies surrounded the area and searched for the suspects with police dogs. No one was located during the search.

The Kwik Stop will remain closed until detectives complete their on-scene investigation. A store representative at the scene declined to comment Friday morning.

Late Friday afternoon, no arrests had been made, Officer Drew Fennelly said.
