Officers were dispatched to the business shortly after 3:40 a.m.
The victim, according to a news release Friday from Lawrence police, was a 38-year-old man who was being treated for nonlife-threatening injuries at an area hospital.
Police are searching for two suspects who allegedly tried to rob the employee, shot him once and then fled the scene on foot. The other suspect was described as a black man about 6 feet 2 inches tall, wearing a blue bandana on his face and a dark hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.
Police and sheriff’s deputies surrounded the area and searched for the suspects with police dogs. No one was located during the search.
The Kwik Stop will remain closed until detectives complete their on-scene investigation. A store representative at the scene declined to comment Friday morning.
