Lawrence High senior Cole Brungardt carded a 78 at Lake Quivira Country Club on Monday, standing in fifth place after the first leg of the Sunflower League boys golf tournament.

Brungardt’s team-low score helped the LHS boys golf team to eighth place in the Shawnee Mission Northwest Invitational, sixth among league teams. Ross Brungardt followed with an 89 while Garrett Wildeman and Thomas Taber both shot a 90.

Free State’s boys golf team placed 10th at the Invitational, seventh among league schools. Jack Junge led the Firebirds with an 82 while Landon Berquist carded an 87.
